Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has made a bold entry into the Indian EV market, and its VF7 is one of the most talked-about electric SUVs of the year. Positioned above the smaller VF6, the VF7 is pitched as a premium midsize electric SUV that competes with the likes of the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e — offering a potent mix of power, space and tech at a compelling price.
Performance: Power That Impresses
What sets the VF7 apart is its top-spec AWD powertrain, which churns out a massive 353 hp and 500 Nm torque thanks to dual electric motors, giving it serious performance credentials. In preliminary tests, this AWD version achieves 0–100 km/h in just 6.02 seconds, a time most rivals in its segment can only dream of.
VinFast claims a 510 km range (WLTP) for the AWD version with its 70.8 kWh battery pack, supported by rapid charging capability that can top the battery from 10–70% in about 28 minutes using a DC fast charger.
Design & Exterior
The VF7’s styling is unique — some may call it unconventional. It leans more toward a long, low-slung SUV/estate design than a traditional upright SUV, which might not appeal to all Indian buyers. Still, it stands out with V-shaped LED DRLs, flush door handles, gloss-black cladding and 19-inch aero-optimized wheels.
The SUV measures over 4.5 m in length with a 2.8 m wheelbase, offering a confident road presence and generous interior space, although the sleek roofline can somewhat compromise rear visibility.
Interior & Comfort
Inside, the VF7 features a minimalist cabin dominated by a large touchscreen that displays all vehicle and driving information — there’s no traditional instrument cluster. The dual-tone upholstery with vegan leather and orange stitching gives the cabin a premium feel, though some plastics feel a bit hard to the touch.
Rear passengers enjoy excellent legroom thanks to the long wheelbase, and features like dedicated AC vents, multiple USB ports, panoramic roof and ample boot space (537 litres) add to the family-friendly package.
Ride & Handling
On the road, the VF7 feels stable and composed, particularly at higher speeds where its planted ride inspires confidence. The suspension may feel firm at low speeds, but it settles into a comfortable rhythm on smoother roads. Handling is predictable, if not particularly agile around tight corners.
Value Proposition
The VF7’s pricing — starting from around ₹20.89 lakh to ₹25.49 lakh (ex-showroom) — undercuts many rivals while offering strong performance, a spacious cabin and advanced features like radar-based Level-2 ADAS, panoramic roof and large infotainment screen.
Final Take
The VinFast VF7 emerges as a compelling entrant in India’s electric SUV space — blending raw power, generous range and premium features at a competitive price. While its design may polarise opinions and some controls (like touchscreen-dependent functions) can feel clunky, its strengths in performance and value are hard to ignore.
For buyers seeking a powerful EV with plenty of tech and a comfortable cabin, the VF7 is certainly worth a close look.
