Yamaha’s XSR Series blends the timeless charm of classic Yamaha motorcycles with cutting-edge technology and exceptional performance creating a unique category known as ‘Retro Sport’.
Key Highlights
- Yamaha XSR155 launched in India
- Offered in a single variant; four paint schemes available
- Gets the same 155 cc liquid cooled mill
Price & positioning
The XSR 155 is priced at ₹1.49 lakh to ₹1.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is offered in a single variant but in four colour options: Metallic Blue, Greyish Green Metallic, Vivid Red and Metallic Grey. Positioned slightly below some of Yamaha’s own performance-bike siblings (such as the MT-15 and R15), it brings a unique styling flavour at a competitive price.
Yamaha’s XSR – Engine
Under the skin, the XSR 155 shares its mechanicals with Yamaha’s proven 155 cc platform: a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces about 18.1-18.4 hp and roughly 14.0-14.2 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist & slipper-clutch setup, which aids in smoother down-changes and rider confidence.
The bike sits on Yamaha’s Deltabox frame, and the suspension setup includes upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. The kerb weight is around 137 kg, making it relatively nimble in its class.
Yamaha’s XSR – Design & features
What sets the XSR 155 apart visually is its neo-retro styling: a round LED headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank with “Yamaha” lettering, a flat single-piece seat (unlike the stepped seats on many sport-bikes) and minimalistic tail section.
On the features front, the motorcycle is equipped with LED lighting all around, a digital LCD instrument console, dual-channel ABS for braking safety, and traction control — which is still relatively rare at this price point. For riders seeking personalisation, Yamaha offers customisation kits (Cafe-Racer and Scrambler styles) for the XSR 155.
